It didn’t take long to figure out that the cubicle was too small for my imagination and ambitions, so I decided to quit to pursue my childhood acting dreams. How did you get your start in the industry?Īfter college, I got a corporate job in Atlanta. There were times when I was tempted with a more traditional path, but the Hollywood dreams won out. But did you ever have plans to do something else? We know you always wanted to be in the entertainment industry.
I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill just down the street, majoring in Performance Studies and Psychology. I am so proud to be born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. Hi Janora! Thanks so much for this opportunity! Can you tell us a little bit about your background to start? And has discovered her power in the pursuit of her dreams and purpose. She has found authenticity in just being herself, Janora McDuffie, an Out Black Queer woman in Hollywood. No matter the area or arena she is performing or operating in, McDuffie aims to connect, inspire and empower. In addition, she has lent her voice and vision sharing her candid life perspective as a keynote speaker for various organizations and events. She’s also made a name for herself in the world of voice-over in animation, video games, audiobooks, radio, television commercials, television shows, and films. She has appeared in television shows including Grey’s Anatomy, 24, This Is Us, Criminal Minds, and Lie to Me and has graced the stage and the big screen in a host of independent films. Since the second grade, McDuffie dreamed of being an actress. McDuffie is the second African-American to announce the Academy Awards in the show’s ninety-four-year history. Durham native, actress, host, voice-over artist, and speaker, Janora McDuffie, is the announcer for the 94th Academy Awards, airing Sunday, March 27, 2022.
